Studying funerary complexes and their systems of protection at the Pyramid of Amenemhat II at Dahshur.

(Franck Monnier)

About me

Engineer specializing in questions of construction and architecture in ancient Egypt. My research has focused on military and funerary architecture, but has also covered structural design and other issues associated with architectural principals and concepts.

My research often draws me into closely related architectural fields including religious, settlement, and into the analysis of representational art, such as the analysis of scenes showing sieges or construction activities.

My scientific approach and professional experience as an engineer have allowed me to adopt a novel perspective of the subject matter. My approach is multi-disciplinary and addresses all classes of evidence, including archaeological evidence, texts, iconography, and historical information.

Reconstructions of monuments

The illustration and virtual reconstruction of archaeological structures lies at the heart of my research approach. These form an integral part of the research methodology.

In 2021, I relaunched the project to reconstruct in 3D the palace of Amenhotep III in Malqatta (for more details, see the Pharaonic Palace Project page).
